The Winter White Tuxedo: Asking for Adjustments

I purchased a stunning winter white tuxedo suit—a bold statement piece that made me feel confident, fabulous, and ready for anything. It was already discounted at 30% off, but when I noticed the price had dropped to 50% off, I decided to ask for a price adjustment. Within minutes, customer service confirmed the adjustment and credited $100 back to my account.

Simple, right? I didn’t overthink it or feel hesitant about asking—it was about what was fair. But it got me thinking: Why is it so much easier for me to ask for a price adjustment than to ask for help, support, or opportunities in other areas of my life?

The truth is, asking doesn’t come naturally to me. I’ve always struggled with putting myself in a position of need, even though I advocate tirelessly on behalf of others without hesitation. Whether it’s advocating for friends, family, or my community, I’ll step up without a second thought. But when it comes to me? Rarely do I ask.

Yet, this experience reminded me that asking for adjustments—whether in the form of a price, a second chance, or a shift in perspective—can lead to unexpected blessings. That $100 wasn’t just a financial win; it was a life lesson. I've asked for price adjustments before, but this time God gave me revelation through it.

Adjustments Are Necessary
In life, we sometimes settle for less because we’re afraid to ask for more. Maybe it’s fear of rejection, feeling undeserving, or simply not wanting to inconvenience anyone. But adjustments are necessary. They can take us from a place of “just enough” to more than we imagined.

Whether it’s asking for a fair price, a better opportunity, or emotional support, the courage to ask can unlock doors that were waiting for us all along. Adjustments don’t just happen—they require intentionality, effort, and often, humility.

That winter white tuxedo reminded me that how we see ourselves matters. Confidence, like the fit of a well-tailored suit, changes how we move through life. When my coach told me, “You look like money,” it hit differently because I felt fabulous. But what if we could carry that same energy into every area of life—not just how we dress, but how we speak, advocate for ourselves, and pursue our goals?

What’s Holding You Back?
If you’ve been hesitant to ask for what you need, consider this: What’s the worst that can happen? A “no” might sting, but it doesn’t define your worth. And when the answer is “yes,” it can change everything.

Here’s the bigger truth: God created us for abundance, not scarcity. He wants us to walk boldly, ask confidently, and trust that we are worthy of the blessings He’s prepared for us.

So, whether it’s a price adjustment or a life adjustment, start asking. Speak up for what you need, advocate for what’s right, and don’t be afraid to move toward your dreams.

Keep G(r)owing!
If there’s one thing that tuxedo taught me, it’s this: when you show up looking like money, feeling like money, and believing in yourself, the world adjusts for you. Please let me break down how the Urban Dictionary defines “Looking Like Money.”

“slang: 1a) A person possessing an outstanding personality quality, social skill, physical appearance, or any exceptional ability or skill that makes them stand out.; 1b) To be the best at something; 1c) Skilled to the level of being as good as currency.”

Now go out there and make your adjustments—and don’t forget to ask.
