Lessons Learned: A Reflection on My 30-Year-Old Self

My daughter was going through some of my mom’s things under my garage and found the photo featured in this blog. My mind instantly wondered how old I was in this photo. I figured I had to be around 30 since my son was very young.
I continued to look at the photo after she left. I reflected on all the experiences I've had in life—the many successes and even my failures. It struck me that back then, I had no idea what the future would hold, and guess what? I still don’t. I was naive about a lot of things but remember being determined to be a person who prioritized learning and growing. I wanted more in life, and I wanted to expose my children to things I had no knowledge of. I knew that I had the opportunity to be a guide and be an example for them. I took that serious.
As I continued to reflect, I began to wonder, what would I tell my 30-year-old self?

Here are a few of my thoughts........

  • The future is full of ups and downs but keep riding the wave because it gets better.

  • Love yourself.

  • Make plans and always set goals but know that Gods plans are not our plans.

  • Yield to His plan and trust Him.

  • Keep going, keep dreaming big, keep loving, keep serving, keep smiling, and keep praising.

  • Relax and enjoy the journey.

  • Believe in yourself.

  • Cheer and celebrate yourself and others.

  • Seek healthy spaces and relationships where you can grow, develop, and feel valued, appreciated, and respected.

  • Allow God’s love to flow to and through you.

  • Buy less and save more money.

I seem to always have a song that comes to mind as I reflect on various things. This is the one that came to me as I was thinking about my 30-year-old self. Here is a snippet and the part that is most relevant to this blog.

Won’t He Do It
“You gon' look back and be so amazed
How it turned out
It's only His grace
Won't He do it?
He said He would
So, I trust Him at all times”

In conclusion, reflection is good for my soul as I look forward to my future. I'm grateful for how God has guided me and how He continues to show me that the perfect plan does not always align with His purpose for us. In order for us to get where He wants to take us, we have to YIELD to Him! Looking back for reflection only. Looking ahead to the great future God has in store for me.

Keep G(r)owing!
